  • About Narooma:

Narooma, the "jewel" of the south coast, is one of the most beautiful and relaxing towns of the Sapphire coast, in the midst of Sydney and Melbourne, 218km of Canberra.

Narooma is said to be derived from the Yuin Aboriginal word " Noorooma" meaning "clear blue waters". There is the blue of the beaches, the calm blue of nearby lakes, the deep blue of the sea surrounding Montague Island and the intense teal waters of pristine Wagonga Inlet, something you will never forget.

Narooma is surrounded with the beautiful “Barunguba” (Montague Island) seaside and a coastline dotted with gorgeous beaches and significant geological rock formations such as the famous Australia Rock, Glasshouse Rocks and Pillow Lava (remains of a submarine volcano).

Set against the magnificent backdrop of Mount Gulaga, extinct Volcano and sacred mountain for Yuin Aboriginal people, Narooma is also the mainland departure point for Montague Island. A Nature Reserve home to hundreds of seals and more than ninety bird species. it is classified as a Landscape Conservation Area due to its scenic, historical and scientific significance.

You can go snorkeling or scuba diving with seals and book a tour to see penguins in their natural habitat. The island is also a great location for whale and dolphin watching.

Wagonga Inlet is described as “the fishing jewel” of the South Coast and is known for its extensive oyster farms. Some of the world best fresh oysters!

The Horse’s Gift sanctuary is located right next to an Oyster farm that has a brand new Oyster bar for the Oyster lovers.

There are cruises and Kayak rentals available on the Wagonga Inlet for those who would like to explore the surroundings.
